Water is probably the most important thing we need when it comes to survival. The body is made up of about 60% water and it is recommended that we drink up to six to eight glasses of this vital liquid per day – even more if we are taking part in a strenuous activity.
These strenuous activities can include outdoor adventures, like hikes. When you are outdoors it is very important that you figure out how to stay hydrated in advance. Without planning your activity properly and ensuring you will have enough hydration, you could be in big trouble. You may find that on an outdoor adventure you do not have access to resources like drinking water if you have gone far off the beaten track. You may not come across any water for a long, long time and even if you do, you can’t be sure that it is safe for human to drink. Often times, water can be contaminated by dirt, pollution, animals and bacteria, meaning that it could make you very ill, or even worse, if you were to drink it.
That is why it is so important to plan ahead for hydration when it comes to outdoor adventures, especially longer ones that take place in more remote areas. There are a few ways to do this. You can take a bottle of water but it is probably not going to be enough. It is also more difficult to carry as it can be bulky and the weight is not distributed, instead sagging in one place making it awkward and uncomfortable. You can also bring water purifiers, which are great tools to have, but should not be counted on as hydration relief alone, as you might not come across any water due to the fact that you have taken a wrong turn, the source has dried up, or it is too polluted for even water purifiers to handle and give you safe water to drink.
The best way to stay hydrated on a long trek is with hiking hydration packs. These hiking hydration packs offer you a way to transport water on your hike and stay hydrated in the ultimate comfort of a backpack. Nowadays hiking hydration packs are the hydration method of choice for hikers and anybody heading outdoors on long treks. With hiking hydration packs, your water holder is incorporated into your backpack, meaning that the weight is evenly distributed and you can access it through a straw-type hose with a bite-down mechanism, without having to remove your backpack. Hiking hydration packs take the hassle out of having to reach for a water bottle when hiking and getting in the way of your stride when you have to reach a certain point by a certain time.
Hiking hydration packs come in a range of sizes to suit your hike or outdoor adventure and the length of time you will be out. Hiking hydration packs also make your hike a lot more comfortable, given that they distribute the weight of the water evenly so you won’t feel like you are carrying as much as you really are.
So, if you are a serious hiker, you should seriously consider hiking hydration packs as essential outdoor gear.
