The first two out of three public hearings on striped bass are officially in the books in New Jersey, with one more to go on Thursday, September 12 at 6 p.m. at the Bay Avenue Community Center at 775 East Bay Avenue in Manahawkin, NJ. While ASMFC is ultimately looking at options explicitly detailed in the Draft Addendum, the Division is looking seriously for public input on how to provide ample protection of spawning stock biomass, better reduction in release mortality and an overall enhancement of the angling experience. The Fisherman will be there to report back for TheFisherman.com.

The full moon on Saturday, September 14 could be the timely annual trigger for the mullet run out along the beach. The striper bite out east on Long Island is reportedly “old days” good around Montauk right now, a good sign of things to come. Reporting in from the beach this week, it’s most definitely “better in September.”
